Family tradition reinterpreted: the M 29 Classic small second
Traditionally, everything at Mühle-Glashütte revolves around precise measuring. After the founding of the company in 1869, Robert Mühle already produced instruments that could accurately specify measurements up to a hundredths or even a thousandths of a millimeter. In order to be able to read these values exactly, the millimeters were indicated by a coarse pointer, a fine pointer made visible the fractions of the unit of measurement. The design of the historic measuring instruments inspired the fifth mill generation to design the new timepiece M 29 Classic Small Seconds. This expands the "Messuhren" family of Nautical instruments Mühle-Glashütte introduced in 2013.
The model clock gauge M 29 from R. Mühle & Sohn served as a template for the new timepiece. It had a measuring range of 0.01 to 10 millimeters, which allowed accurate measurements of the length to the hundredth of a millimeter. The model M 29 also had a display with a large fine pointer for the fractions of a millimeter as well as a small help dial with a coarse pointer, which made the full millimeters readable.
This design takes up the new M 29 Classic Small Second and translates it into the language of the time instruments of Nautical Instruments Mühle-Glashütte. On the small help dial, the seconds are measured precisely - while hour and minute are displayed on the large main dial. The parallels to the historical model are recognizable in detail. The black scale and the finely cut, dark hands stand out clearly from the crème-colored dial. Red indices at three, six, nine, and twelve give orientation points and emphasize the instrumental character of the clock. The arrangement of the small second at nine o'clock is a special design feature. The red pointer with the fine scale can be read in seconds. The date display with its red frame at three o'clock produces an optical equilibrium to the small second and gives the watch a balanced character. The 42.4 millimeter measuring case is supported by a brown leather bracelet.
In order to ensure precision in all conditions, the automatic movement of the M 29 Classic Small Second is equipped with the patented, particularly shock-resistant ball valve of Mühle-Glashütte. The durable housing is provided with a water tightness of up to 10 bar and a screwed crown with flank protection - aspects that strengthen the robust design of the watch. These characteristics are the result of the recent company history of Mühle-Glashütte. Through the manufacture of nautical instruments and ship watches, which began after German reunification, Mühle developed the claim to enable the accuracy of its nautical timepieces under all conditions of use.
The new M 29 Classic Small Second combines the values of the Glashütter family business in an expressive manner. In it, the passion for precise measuring and nautical virtues meet and form an elementary timepiece. The M 29 Classic Small Second is thus an expression of the tradition of the Glashütter family business - down to the smallest detail.
